Evangelism:
The Time Is Now!

Definitions

Talmud: the collection of Jewish law and tradition consisting of the Mishnah and the Gemera.

Mishnah: the section of the Talmud consisting of the collection of oral laws edited by Rabbi Judah ha-Nasi (c. AD 135-210).

Tanakh: Jewish word for Old Testament. the word Tanakh is an acronym made from the first letters of the three main divisions of the Hebrew Bible: Torah hr;/T, the Pentateuch, the writings of Moses; Neviim myaibiN], the writings of the Prophets; and K’tuvim !ybiTok;, the rest of the writings of the Old Testament.

Targums: A targum is a translation of the Hebrew Bible into Aramaic. "When the Jewish exiles returned from the seventy years of captivity in Babylon, most of the people had lost their understanding and use of the Hebrew language. Naturally, during the seventy years of captivity, they had learned to speak the Chaldean (Aramaic, Babylonian) language as their common tongue. Consequently, after the return from Babylon, the priest would first read the Torah portion in the original Hebrew and then he would interpret the Hebrew portion to the people using the Chaldee language that they understood. The division of the fifty-four sections of the Torah into verses made it more convenient to read both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Targums which were written paraphrases or commentaries on the relevant Scripture written in the Chaldee language. The two major Targums were the Targum of Jonathan and the Targum of Onkelos."
