DPK: Third, Receiving Jesus as Lord means to obey his will and plan for your life revealed through His Holy Spirit. Jesus Said: "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven." The Apostle John said it this way, he said, "By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." If a person has truly surrendered to Jesus as Lord, he will submit to His will and plan for his life.

The Purpose of Page 8: Again, the reason why Jesus died on the cross for our sins was to free us of spending our lives trying to gain His forgiveness for our sins so we can instead focus on His will and plan for our lives. Therefore, third, receiving Jesus as Lord means to submit to the will and plan that He has for our lives revealed through His Holy Spirit. Both Jesus and John the Apostle make plain what it means to know Jesus: It means to obey and fulfill the will and plan that Jesus has for each of us individually. John and Jesus make it plain that to call Jesus Lord and not obey Him is to not know Him, to not be saved. John said that the person who says he knows Jesus and does not obey him is lying, he does not know Jesus. Therefore third, to receive Jesus as Lord means to obey His will and plan for Your life revealed through His Holy Spirit.

Receiving Jesus as Lord doesn’t mean, "Praise the Lord I am saved," and then to go on living for one’s self. Jesus did not just come to save us from our sin, but more importantly He came to save us from ourselves. The fall of man was his coming into bondage to himself. The redemption of Jesus through the cross is to deliver us from our bondage of self-rule back into relationship with God and to His rule over our lives through the Holy Spirit. Page 8 makes clear this truth.

The word believe in the Greek is pisteuo (pisteuw). It means to believe in, rely upon, entrust oneself to and obey that person.157

The word does-not-obey in the Greek is apeitheo (apeiqew). It means to refuse belief and obedience to.158

DPK: This brings us to the next question which is how do we make Jesus Christ Savior and Lord of our lives? We do this by literally inviting Him into our hearts. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him, and will dine with him, and he with Me." The door refers to our hearts. The Heart is the volitional part of man. It is that part of man that controls his life and freewill destiny. Jesus says, Surrender that to Me. Receiving Jesus Christ then into your heart means: one, to repent of any known sin in your life; two, to accept God’s forgiveness for your sins through Jesus’ death and shed blood alone; and, third, to obey Jesus’ leading in your life through His Holy Spirit.

Page 9 reaffirms the fact that Christianity is literally relationship with Jesus and the way we receive Him as Savior from our sins and as Lord of our lives is by literally receiving Him into our hearts. The moment we receive Jesus into our heart we become one spirit with Him (1 Cor 6:17). This means that whatever is true for Jesus is now true for us: His death becomes our death for our sins and the penalty of sin is paid. This also explains why, even though Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, His death is not applied to our sins until after we receive Him. Receiving Jesus into our hearts also means that we are receiving the very life of God in the person of Jesus Christ, and thus eternal indestructible life which results in our having eternal life through our being joined to Jesus’ eternal indestructible life.

Finally to receive Jesus into our hearts means all we have already discussed: first, it means we repent of our sins; second, to accept by faith God’s forgiveness for our sins through Jesus’ death and shed blood on the cross alone, not by any works of ours; and finally, third, to then obey Jesus’ leading in our lives through His Holy Spirit.

DPK: We receive Jesus Christ into our hearts by Faith! The Apostle Paul wrote: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast." What does the bible mean by faith? It does not mean blind faith, meaning faith without proof or verification; it means knowing that once we ask Jesus to come into our heart as Savior from our sins and as Lord of our life, that He does come in and save us, not as a feeling, but because He gave us absolute proof that He will do what He promised when He came back physically from the dead. And what is Jesus’ promise? That He will come into your heart when you ask Him to. Luke, a Physician in Jesus day, wrote about Jesus’ Resurrection:

"To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God."

The Reason For Page 10: How do we know that everything we just shared with the person we are talking to is true? There are hundreds of religions and movements in the world claiming that they have the truth, that their truth is the way. How do we know that the Christian message is true and all other claimed ways to salvation are false? Jesus was asked that question by the Jews of His day. He did not right it off, He said to them in response paraphrased here,

"Kill me! I will stay dead for three days and come back from the dead to prove to you that I am Yehovah God your Creator in the flesh, the only way to God, that there is a heaven and a hell, an after life and that I am the only means of salvation that you have, that every thing I say and claim is absolutely true and that you CAN base your life on it." (John 2:18-22)

When we share Jesus with people they are going to want to know how what we have shared with them is true. Jesus’ Physical Resurrection is our proof. We as Christians have no reason to be timid about the message of the Gospel, because unlike any other religious founder or scientist of history, our founder came back from the dead to give us absolute proof that His message is absolute truth. Jesus’ Physical Resurrection from the dead is the bases for our having unwavering faith in the message. It is our proof that when we ask Jesus to come into our hearts that He will come in, that He will do what he said He would do (1 Cor 15). Page 10 makes this absolute truth clear so that the person knows he now has no excuse for not accepting the message and Jesus as Savior and Lord. Page 10 also makes clear to the person how he can know Jesus will save him when he asks Him in.

DPK: The Bible talks about two kinds of people: Self-Controlled and Christ-Controlled. A self-controlled person is a person who is motivated and controlled through their soul, their intellect and feelings and through their flesh their appetite and desires which often times results in discord, disharmony and frustration. This is symbolized by these different dots here. The cross represents Jesus knocking saying He would like to come in, but God is a gentleman, He will not just force His way into a person's life.

The person on the right represents a Christ-controlled life. A Christ-controlled person is a person who by an act of his own free will has responded to Jesus' invitation and has invited Jesus Christ into his life and placed Him on the throne, the control center of his life. As a result, a Christ-controlled person is a person who is motivated and controlled by Jesus through their human spirit. These dots which are now in an ordered pattern does not mean that this person does not have problems, everybody in life has problems. What they symbolize are that as this person puts his trust in Jesus Christ not only for salvation, but as he seeks His counsel concerning the separate individual areas of his life that it results in harmony with God's purpose and plans for his life despite his problems.

Bill, if you were to place yourself between one of these two people, which of these two people would you say best represented your life?

B: The person on the left.

DPK: Which person would you like to have represent your life?

B: The person on the right.

The Purpose of Page 11: After listening to all this intellectual Biblical truth through word and text, a person can get lost in the true meaning about what we are trying to communicate. Why all this information then? If you are witnessing to a Mormon, he will tell you he has received Jesus as Savior and Lord, but which Jesus is he talking about. The Jesus presented in this tract or the Jesus of Mormonism which was a man conceived of supposedly by Mary having had relations with Adam? This Jesus is not the same Jesus we are talking about who is Yehovah God first, the Creator of the universe who in time took on and became man through Holy Spirit conception of the Virgin Mary. If you pray and receive the Jesus of Mormonism, you will not be saved. Only when You receive the Jesus of the Bible presented in this tract will you be truly saved. That is why it is absolutely necessary to go through and present the information in this tract before going on to page 11. Success in Evangelism is not whether we get someone to pray and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, but whether he understands truly what it means to be a Christian and how to become one. Everything in this tract, including page 11 and 12 successfully accomplishes this goal.

Page 11 provides us a way to explain it again simply, clearly and illustratively through the diagram on this page. Through this diagram you are able to explain again clearly what the difference is between what it means to know and not know God. This page also introduces to the person, in most cases for the first time, the Bible's teaching on the creation and constitution of man. For this reason, it is very important that you memorize word for word the above explained way to present this page because all content here is vital for them to understand. This illustration is a simple covering of chapters 6 and 7 of this Section and Chapter 1 of Section 3.

Man does not understand that what his problem is, is not what he does or does not do, but his dead spirit, that what he does he does out of the initiative of his soul and flesh, not by Jesus’ initiative through the Holy Spirit through His human spirit. Page 11 makes this clear and also explains more clearly what we mean by receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord. By the time you have shared this page the person should clearly understand what all you have shared with them and be ready to make an intelligent decision to receive or reject Jesus as Savior and Lord and what the consequences are if he or she does not.

DPK: The following explains how you can know Jesus personally: The way you come to know Jesus is by Literally inviting Him into your Heart. What is stated here is a suggested prayer:

"Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and repent of my known sins. I ask You now to come into my heart as Savior from my sins and as Lord of my life. Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving my sins through Your Son’s death and shed blood on the cross and that I now have eternal life. Now take control of my life, and through Your Holy Spirit lead me into your will and plan for my life; in Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s name , amen"

Would you like to pray and ask Jesus into your heart?

B: Yes, I would!

DPK: Then I will pray this prayer again right now slowly. Repeat it after me:

(Phrase by phrase, the prayer is prayed out loud together)

The purpose of page 12: It is not enough to explain to a person what it means to be a Christian and how to become one, we are not done until we have challenged and encouraged them to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Often times even though people know they need to receive Jesus, they are not able to take that final step. They are held back for many reasons. They know that receiving Jesus as Savior from their sins and as Lord of their life is the right thing to do, but are not able on their own to release their faith to make this most important life decision. That is where you and I come in. Only as we confront and encourage them to receive Jesus Christ do they then find the courage to make this decision. This is what Paul is talking about in Romans 1:17 when he states,

"For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith as it is written, ‘But the righteous man shall live by faith.’"

This in fact is why Jesus commands us to share our faith with others. Men and women are only able to release their faith in Jesus as they see and hear the faith we have in Jesus. Our faith gives them the courage to have saving faith and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. From ". . . faith to faith."

The prayer on this page also introduces them right off to the Trinity and the involvement of the Trinity-God in their lives, even in the process of praying for salvation.
