How To Pray
Before Going On The Field

Jesus taught to give and that as you do it will be given to you. Over the past thirty years as I have given of myself and my time to Evangelism, Jesus has given back to me. That is what all my books and writings are: Jesus’ insights and gifts to me concerning Evangelism. But along with the insights He has given me in how to Evangelize, He has also given me insights on how to pray before I go out on the field for greatest effectiveness and success in witnessing while on the field. This is what I would like to share with you now in this chapter.
Aside from training and study to prepare yourself for Evangelism, you need to cover the following things in prayer before you go out to battle:
- Approach Jesus Through Worship and Praise
- Pray Against Satanic Forces
- Pray For for the Armor of God
- Pray for the covering of Jesus Blood
- Pray for the Protection of His Warrior Angels.
- Pray For Restraint over Present Authorities.
- Pray and Ask Jesus to Prepare the Person(s) for the Message of His Love and Forgiveness Through You
- Pray for Privacy and no Distractions.
- Pray that the Person Experiences Jesus' Love, Joy, and Peace as You Approach them.
- Pray For Favor of the Listener and that They Will Give a Hearty Yes! to the Gospel.
- Pray for Restraining Grace
- Pray to Only Speak Out of Jesus' Initiative
- Pray for Discernment Concerning What is Truly Blocking Their Faith.
- Pray for Discernment as to How to Respond to What is Truly Blocking Their Faith.
- Pray for Holy Spirit Boldness, Confidence and Conviction in Presenting the Gospel
- Pray for Confirmation of the Gospel
- Pray for Power to Motivate the Individual in Love to Respond to the Gospel.
APPROACH JESUS
THROUGH WORSHIP AND PRAISE
*Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus of Nazareth, Holy Spirit, we praise You, we worship You, we give You thanks and praise. Thank You Jesus for your goodness. Thank You for dying on the cross for our sins. Praise You, worship You, exalt You. . .
*Appropriate Scriptures:
Psalm 100:4
"Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise."1 Timothy 2:8
"Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension."Lamentations 3:41
"Let us lift up our hearts with our hands toward God in the heavens."John 14:21 "He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him."
The Bible commands that we are to approach God through worship and praise. Jesus tells us in John 14:21 that He will only manifest Himself to those who obey Him. Therefore, the first step to praying effectively for Evangelism on the field, is to approach Jesus in prayer through worship and praise. When I approach Jesus in prayer for Evangelism, I start by just worshiping and praising Him, confessing what is true about Him: His goodness, His authority and power, His being Lord of lords and King of kings, the only creator of Heaven and Earth. I will do this until He manifests Himself to me. For me personally He usually brings to my mind Mark 11:24 which states,
"Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted to you."
He then will usually say to me, What do You want?
What has Jesus done? He has just held out his scepter and welcomed me to His throne and given me permission to speak to Him about whatever is on my heart. I now have his complete attention and know He will hear what I have to say and request. I then go on to give Him my requests.
PRAY AGAINST SATANIC FORCES
*Prayer:
Jesus, we pray for you anointing, power and Holy Spirit upon us and the people we are going to be sharing the Gospel with. We pray that that you would tear down the strongholds of Satan over us and over them.
Satan, we come against you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. We bind you Satan. We bind you hindering spirits. We bind you spirits of the prince of the air. We bind you evil forces. We command you to take your hands off of us and the people we are going to be witnessing too. We forbid you to hinder the going forth of the Gospel through us. We forbid you also to hinder the individuals we are sharing with from hearing the Gospel. You shall not hinder through noise distraction, through thought suggestion, through husbands, through wives, through children, through brothers, through sisters, through relatives, through friends, through employers or employees or through security guards, through Satanic spirits or human spirits. You shall not hinder the going forth of the Gospel through us through any means whatsoever. We forbid it in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and send you all to him to do with you as He sees fit. We forbid you to return in Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s name, amen.

"And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God."2 Corinthians 10:3-5
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive through the obedience of Christ."Luke 10:19
"Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you."Matthew 16:9
"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."Jude 9 "But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you.’"
*Explanation
Jesus tells us plainly that He has given us authority over all the power and authority of Satan. Therefore if we are to have victory over their attacks, we must exercise our authority Jesus has given us against them.
PRAY FOR FOR
THE ARMOR OF GOD
*Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I pray for the full armor of God: the helmet of salvation, the breast plate of righteousness, the shield of faith by which I will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one, the belt of truth, that You would shod my feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace and for the Sword of the Spirit which is Your Word.I also pray that You would grant me the crosses You want me to bear and I give you permission to use my spirit in spiritual warfare.
*Appropriate Scriptures:
Ephesians 6:12-17
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness. and having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."Matthew 10:38
"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me."*Explanation:
When we ask God to cloth us with his armor, He literally clothes our spirit with armor to protect us from satanic spiritual beings. Crosses are what Jesus allows us to suffer for His kingdom as his soldiers in the kingdom of God. When we pray for men and women’s salvation, we do warfare in the spiritual realm. As we pray, God uses our spirits to do battle against satanic spirits and satanic human spirits that are binding the person from being able to come to Jesus. This is what it means to stand in the gap for someone. This is why it is so important that at the beginning of every day we pray for the armor of God.
PRAY FOR THE
COVERING OF JESUS BLOOD
*Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I pray for the covering and protection of Your blood.*Appropriate Scriptures:
Revelation 12:11 "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death."
*Explanation:
When Jesus first started teaching me about spiritual warfare, the first thing I understood was the importance of putting on the armor of God. I knew passages like Revelation 12:11 but did not understand the importance of daily praying for the covering and protection of Jesus’ blood. I was daily praying for the armor and did see a noticeable difference in the frequency and force of Satanic attack, but I would still find myself under attack. I begin to seek God as to why Satan was still getting through. The answer I got was, You need to also daily pray for the covering and protection of My blood. I did and the attacks ceased. There is tremendous power in the blood of Jesus Christ.
PRAY FOR THE PROTECTION
OF HIS WARRIOR ANGELS.
*Prayer:
Jesus, I pray that You would send legions of Your mightiest warrior angels to create a complete shield around us and protect us from satanic spirits, human spirits and evil of any kind.*Appropriate Scriptures:
Psalms 34:7
"The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them."Hebrews 1:14
"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?"*Explanation:
Several years ago I pioneered a church work in Fresno, California. Along with this work, of course came Satanic attacks. I would anoint ourselves and our place of worship, pray for the protection of the blood and exercise my authority as a believer by binding and commanding the unclean spirits to leave. Despite all this, I would personally still come under literal physical attack by unseen forces. I believed I had authority over Satan, yet I was still coming under attack by unseen forces.
After much prayer about the issue, the Lord revealed to me that I was under attack not by Satanic spirits, but by Satanic human spirits. These are worshippers of Satan who are commanded by Satan to astral project and attack in there spirits servants of God Satan is unable to get to because of a believer exercising his authority over satanic spirits. We have authority over Satan and the demons. We don’t, however, have authority over human spirits. The Lord showed me the answer to this was to anoint my home and place of worship and then pray for the covering and protection of His Holy angels. When you do this the angels create a complete bubble around you and prevent any unclean spirits of any kind from getting through and attacking you. Therefore, in addition to praying for the armor and the blood of Jesus Christ, I also daily pray for the protection of God’s mightiest warrior angels. That closed the gap. The direct attacks ceased.
PRAY FOR RESTRAINT OVER
AUTHORITIES PRESENT
*Prayer:
Jesus, You said You came to make seeing eyes blind and blind eyes see. We pray for your anointing, power and Holy Spirit upon the present authorities that you would blind their eyes and cause them to be so occupied that they do not even see us, that they pass on. If they do see us, that they do not take notice but pass on. But please Lord we pray open the eyes of those we are sharing with to see that what we are sharing with them is true, that You are the Truth the only answer to their life and needs.*Appropriate Scripture:
John 9:39
"For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see; and that those who see may become blind."Proverbs 21:1
"The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord, He turns it wherever He wishes."
