We were at a Mall witnessing on a Sunday afternoon. Dale had shared with
someone the last time we went out so it was my turn. We walked around the bottom
floor of the mall and then decided to go upstairs. When looking for someone to
share with, we try to find someone who is sitting alone without any distractions
from any side.
After walking along for a time we saw an oriental looking man standing by
himself on the railing. I decided to approach the man. "Hi! My name is Jim
and this is my friend Dale. We are out on the mall today taking a survey on this
book titled, What Is Eternal Life?. We wondered if we could take
ten minutes of your time and get your reaction to it?" Chu said yes and I
proceeded to share What Is Eternal Life? with him.
I went through it slowly because he had some difficulty with English. When I
got to the two kinds of people talked about in the Bible on page 11, one
representing the Christ-Controlled Life and the other a Self-Controlled Life, I
asked him which person best represented his life. He asked me what did I mean. I
asked him if he had ever received Jesus Christ into his life. He said he did not
understand. I then went over the verse in Revelation 3:20 again, Behold, I
stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will
come in.... I explained to him that when a person asks Jesus to come into
his heart, that he then accepts that Jesus is in his heart based on His promise
not his feelings. Since Jesus is God in the flesh, it is impossible for Him to
lie. Therefore, He must do whatever He promises to do and so when you ask him to
come into Your heart, he does come in whether you feel it or not.
Chu then said he was waiting for God to do something so he could believe. I
told him that the fact that I was there sharing Jesus' love with him was God
doing something, that He was urging him right now to receive His Son into his
heart, that He promised us in 1 John 5:11-12 (p. 13) that he would give eternal
life to anyone who received His Son into their heart:
"And the witness [God the Father's witness] is this, that God has given
us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life;
he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life."
I shared "If You receive Jesus based on His promise in Revelation 3:20
then you will have the Son [Jesus] and you will have eternal life."
I then shared the prayer with him on page 12 and asked him if this prayer
expressed the desire of his heart and whether he wanted to pray and receive
Jesus into his heart. He was still uncertain, so we gave him a copy of What
Is Eternal Life? and told him he could pray this prayer when he was
ready to receive Jesus. We also gave him Understanding Your Salvation in
Jesus to help him better understand his salvation in Jesus. I had
previously emphasized that Jesus was the only Spiritual leader who claimed to be
the only way to God and then backed it up by rising from the grave, in the
flesh, and appearing to over 500 people for a period of 40 days before ascending
into heaven in their sight.1
I gave him my name and number so he could contact me if He had any questions
or if he wanted to let me know what he thought of the material or if he prayed
to receive Christ. He shared that he had a Vietnamese friend who is a Christian,
so we encouraged him to show the material to his friend and discuss it with him.
