Salvation Tract Illustrated
The Value of Using "What Is Eternal Life" illustrated

My reason for choosing to use a tract like What Is Eternal Life? in this basic school of Evangelism is not because I think it is the Only way to approach Evangelism. In aggressive planned one-on-one Evangelism, I find it is the best way to approach Evangelism. The goal of Evangelism is to explain to a person what it means to be a Christian and how to become one. When witnessing to a co-worker on the job or a long time associate, I will share with them my life and how events in my life led me to Jesus and His Salvation. But when I go out to witness to a total stranger I will in most cases never see again, my primary goal is to communicate to that person what it means to be a Christian and how to become one clearly in a way so that when I leave, even if he is not ready at that moment to give his life to Jesus, when he is ready he will know what to do and how to receive Jesus Christ into his heart.

Using an Evangelism Tract makes this possible. First, it keeps the focus on Jesus. It keeps you on the message of the Gospel and prevents the listener from getting you side tracked to issues not related to the Gospel. Second, it keeps the presentation of the Gospel simple, concise and to the point. Third, not only is the person hearing the Gospel but sees it communicated on paper and thus brings into involvement more of his senses than just his hearing. The more senses that are involved in your presenting the Gospel, the better the person will remember what you communicated later. Fourth, using a tract gives you something you can leave with the person so that when he or she is ready to receive Jesus, they have something in their hands that will tell them how to do it. Fifth, not only will the tract tell them how to receive Jesus, but will give them assurance of Salvation, explain to them the importance of discipleship training and their need to contact someone like yourself to get the necessary discipleship training in Jesus they will need and will explain to them the importance of fellowship and getting involved faithfully in a body of believers. Finally, you can leave your name, address and phone number on the Evangelism Tract so that when they do make that decision, they will know how to get in touch with you for follow-up and discipleship training when they make the decision to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord of their lives.
When I talk about the benefits of a planned presentation, I am not just talking from intellectual pursuit, I am talking from 31 years of field experience using Evangelism Tracts in aggressive Evangelism on the college campus, in juvenile detention centers, on the islands of Hawaii, in city malls, door to door and at any other place it has proven appropriate for the situation. The tract I wrote, What Is Eternal life?, was written as a result of the needs I was seeing being expressed in sharing the Gospel on the field. It was a three year project, started in 1989, to begin with and has been revised several times since then (present copyright 1999) developed and perfected in the process of presenting the Gospel to people on the field. My Book The Value of Using explains in detail its complete value as a tool for Evangelism on or off the field.

During these 31 years, several people have walked up to me and said, Do you remember me? I usually reply, No. They then tell me,

"Five years ago you shared the Gospel with me through a tract you left with me. I thought about what you shared with me for several months. Then one day I pulled out the tract you gave me, reread it, prayed the sinners prayer in the back and gave my life to Jesus. I have been walking with Him ever since."

In DISCIPLESHIP this Basic Textbook teaches the student:

  • What Discipleship is and how to Disciple a New Christian.
  • How we relate to Jesus for the answer to our needs.
  • The Importance of Daily Time in the Word of God.
  • The Importance of Weekly Fellowship in a Church.
  • How to successfully manage their time during the week so they can also include at least two hours a week to go out and share their faith with others.
  • What the Bible teaches about the Constitution and Personality development of man.
  • How to Discern What is Truly Jesus' Voice.
  • How to Know and Succeed in Jesus' Plan for Your Life.
  • How to Experience Jesus' Forgiveness Daily and how to teach this to others.
  • The Different Kinds of Faith that there are and the Faith that pleases God.
  • What it means to Love Jesus with all your Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength.
  • The Cost of Discipleship and what walking with Jesus truly means.

Principles of Discipleship are very important in an Evangelism Training Program because most Christian's problems that are binding them up can be traced to a lack of knowledge or practice of one or more basic Biblical discipleship concepts. The training in this Basic Textbook of Evangelism will give the trainee the ability to communicate these principles simply and clearly to the person being counseled on the field.

In APOLOGETICS this Basic Textbook covers

  • 1. The Claims of Jesus Christ which addresses and corrects most of the Christological heresies taught by many of the leading Christian cults in America today.
  • The Bible's Teaching on the Constitution of Man verses Secular Psychology.
  • Witnessing ethics: what and what not to do in Evangelism.
  • The Issue of Predestination verses the Importance of Evangelism.
  • The different ways in which we determine what is true and how the Bible meets these criteria.
  • The reliability of Old and New Testament manuscripts.
  • Evidence for Moses' authorship of the Pentateuch.
  • Why Genesis and Evolution are not compatible.
  • Evidence for the Literal-Historical Reliability of the Bible God's Word in the areas of historical, cosmological, scientific, theological and redemptive fact.
  • Major Old Testament Prophetic predictions concerning Jesus and His fulfillment of them, amazing fulfilled prophecies in the past fifty years and Hebrew Codes.
  • Testimonies of Evangelism on the field that deal with tough questions one encounters on the field.
  • The literal absolute reality and existence of Heaven and Hell.
  • Quick Reference sheets for the Internet and anyother kind of Evangelism on the field.

When sharing the Gospel with a non Christian, just sharing the simple Gospel may not be enough to release the individual's faith to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord because of false assumptions about the validity of the teaching of Scripture or the Christian faith. Jesus said that knowing the truth will set a person free (John 8:32). In order for a person's faith to be released these strongholds of the mind, as Paul calls them (2 Cor 10:3-5), must be removed. This is the discipline of Apologetics. In the Basic Textbook the student is taught what most of the major arguments are against Christianity and the Bible God's Word and how to respond to these negative assertions in a way that will release the faith of the person being witnessed to so that they see that Jesus really is the only answer to their life and needs and that the Bible really is the absolute Word of God and absolutely reliable to base life and society on. Again, the teachings of Apologetics in this textbook were developed as a result of 31 years of ongoing weekly Evangelism on the field and the questions encountered on the field as current as the copyright of the Basic Textbook. As a result, Chapters in this Basic Textbook on Apologetics cover and answer most of the questions one will encounter on the field. Included with the teaching of Apologetics in the Textbook are several Books taken from the Textbook material on Apologetics for the student to us on the field while doing Evangelism.

To lead a person to Jesus Christ requires:

  • First, Explaining to a person what it means to be a Christian and how to become one which is EVANGELISM and SALVATION.
  • Second, teaching a New Christian how to discern what is truly Jesus' voice to him in the different areas of his life and then encouraging him or her to obey what Jesus tells them to do which is DISCIPLESHIP.
  • And third, giving honest answers to honest questions about the validity of the Christian faith which is APOLOGETICS.

This Basic textbook Evangelism: The Time Is Now! on Evangelism, Salvation, Discipleship and Apologetics gives the Christian more than an adequate foundation in these four areas for successful Evangelism and any Ministry work.
