The Importance of Truth
In Evangelism

Back to First Page

John this is something I am on my knees several times a week about: "Jesus, am I representing you correctly, the Gospel correctly, the truths of the Gospel correctly and sufficiently? I want to bring men to true salvation in You!" That is why I discipline myself to read through books that are dry and boring at times because I need to know their truths so I can give an answer to those who ask me to give them a reason for the hope of the Gospel. That is true love, doing what I do for the benefit of the person I am talking to, not because I feel like doing it.

John, when I go out and share the Gospel, I am not concerned to make the Gospel interesting to the hearer. I am concerned to communicate the truths of the Gospel to the person so they will come to true saving faith in Jesus Christ and be saved. The reason why the church has become so ineffective in our society today is because over the past century we did not uphold the truths of the Gospel, of the creation and fall of man as stated in Genesis, and why this required God becoming a man to save us. Now as a result people find the Gospel irrelevant, without meaning. If we are normal, then we have no need of salvation, if man is what he has always been, not as God created him. Believe me, I encounter this all the time on the field: "I am fine, I have no need of salvation." Christians intimidated by the teaching of evolution over time have compromised the teaching of Scripture to fit into the teaching of evolution. The end result is that men who now believe in evolution see no relevancy in the Gospel since man evolved into his present better state. John you cannot bring men to salvation unless you first start with what is true. Evangelism is not getting someone to say the sinner's prayer, Evangelism is educating the individual about what is true about their sinful condition and God's remedy for them through Jesus' death and shed blood on the cross. Evangelism is educating a person about what is true as taught in the Bible. That is the first step toward conversion: hearing the truth.

Now they have the truth of the Gospel inside their heart and mind. Now the Holy Spirit can go to work and confirm to them the truthfulness of what we have said.

A person does not come to saving faith in Jesus when they have an emotional experience, they come to saving faith in Jesus when they make a decision to believe that what they have heard in our presenting the Gospel is true.

"In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvationhaving also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory." (Ephesians 1:13-14)

"`Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.' While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message." (Acts 10:43-44)

Why? Why did the Holy Spirit come upon these people who were hearing the truth of the Gospel preached to them?

"And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as He did upon us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, `John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' If God therefore gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" (Acts 11:15-17)

"And God, who knows-the-heart, bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. . . . But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are." (Acts 15:8-11)

Why did God give them the Holy Spirit? Because he saw in their hearts that they had believed on the message of the Gospel Peter was speaking to them. God saw their saving faith in the message, the truth of the Gospel being preached. When he did see their saving faith in the Gospel, He automatically gave them His Holy Spirit as a result! When did Peter give an invitation? He never did. Why then do we have people pray the sinners prayer and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord with us?

"That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation." (Romans 10:9-10)

Because Paul tells us if a person has truly believed on the Gospel it will be evidenced by their mouth confession. They may have believed in their heart, but only when they confess with their mouth do we know they have believed and does it become solidified in their hearts. We then become their witnesses, but salvation had already taken place in their hearts when they believed on the Gospel, not when they prayed the sinners prayer. In either case, if they have believed they will give evidence of it by declaring it publically by receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord. If a person is truly saved, he will not be ashamed to declare it publically.

You see John, people are not saved just because we get them to receive Jesus, they are saved when they believe the truth of the message of the Gospel. This is why the bible says only God knows those who are his (2 Tim 2:19) because only God knows when a person truly believes on the Gospel in their hearts. Satanists infiltrate churches by going forward and praying the sinners prayer, but in their hearts they don't mean it, it is just for show so that church will receive them, then they can do their satanic work of division and bringing down that body of believers.

Again, John, my message to you in this letter is to emphasize that what you need to be concerned about is not what moves you emotionally or what is interesting, but what is true! When we believe what is true in the Gospel, that is what saves us, not what we find interesting or what moves us emotionally. That is why God wants you to go through this training program of evangelism so you will learn what is true, His truths in the Gospel so you are communicating the Gospel correctly.

I understand now why you are having trouble getting through this textbook. Not intentionally, but you are still living in a feeling world rather than "Jesus what is true?" world. Okay, you are a normal in your spiritual development, so I am not attacking you; but I am trying to communicate to you that your concern in your relationship with Jesus and in communicating the Gospel needs to be"What is true?" Not "How does this make me feel." Feelings have nothing to do with what is true. They have nothing to do with coming to saving faith in Jesus. Yes! We have feelings and an emotional response because of the truths of the Gospel, but not as the means to truth or salvation. For this reason I encourage you to go back and read Chapter 8 in the Basic Textbook again with understanding. Understanding the truths taught in this chapter will help you, more than anything else you learn in this training program, communicate the Gospel properly and successfully. You will also find yourself communicating the Gospel confidently since now you will know clearly what the Gospel is you need to communicate to bring people to true saving faith in Jesus.

After presenting the truths of the Gospel completely through and challenging the person to believe on the Gospel and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, if the person does not then receive Jesus, I am never disappointed. However, if I only get through three pages of WEL and am cut off, I am disappointed. Why? Because I have failed in communicating to them what it means to be a Christian and how to become one. I have failed in communicating to them the truths of the Gospel. If I have succeded in communicating to them the truths of the Gospel, what it means to be a Christian clearly and how to become one, I am happy and have had a successful time of sharing the Gospel, because then in time when they are ready to believe its message in their hearts, as the person I described in chapter 2 of Section 1, they will be saved and bear fruit accordingly. Only when a person shows faith in the content of the Gospel I have presented to them in the salvation tract as a whole will I then lead them into a prayer of salvation if they are ready to do so. This is because only then am I assured that they understand what they are receiving and that they are receiving the Jesus of the Bible that will truly lead to their salvation. Salvation comes when they believe the truths of the message of the Gospel, not when I get them to recite a prayer. That is the importance of TRUTH! and the relevancy and importance of Chapter 8 and why it is so vital you read it carefully and completely through with understanding.

John this is why you need to memorize the tract What Is Eternal Life? and study Chapter 8 and 9 with full meaning and understanding because all elements of the teaching of the Gospel must first be in our message before we can be sure they are truly receiving the Jesus of the Bible to be saved and come to true saving faith in the Gospel.

Again, John, Jesus' message to you in this letter is to be focused on what is TRUE! Jesus said,

"Pilate therefore said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

What is interesting and how you feel are your spiritual enemies, not your friends, because feeling good and what is interesting does not save us, does not lead us to a knowledge of the truth; only believing on the truth of the Gospel as recorded in the Bible does. It is an intellectual message, not a feeling message. We are saved when we believe on the message, not when we feel the message. Jesus said "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Jesus wants you to be a true disciple of Him, He wants you to study and know what is true so you can represent Him truly and properly.

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the Word of Truth." (2 Tim 2:15)

"Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things; for as you do this you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you." (1 Timothy 4:16)

That is why a training program in evangelism is so important because in this program you learn what the Gospel is and what elements are absolutely necessary to communicate to the hearer if we are to be assured of bringing them to saving faith in Jesus. That is why Jesus wants you to discipline yourself not only to go through it, but to go through it slowly, correctly and to study it correctly to come to true understanding and knowledge of what is true. Jesus said "I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."
