Mormons, Muslims, non Christian
religions, and secular man claim the Bible is in error, that it was corrupted
over time and that this is why God gave others like Joseph Smith the Book of
Mormon and Muhammad the Qur'an.
Archaeology, the Dead Sea Scrolls and the
Science of
Textual Criticism have long proved these claims false a hundred times
over. Or they claim the Bible is true only so far as it is translated
correctly, meaning whatever contradicts the teaching of their religious books is
in error. Is this true? How do we know whether or not the book of
Mormon is from God, or that the Qur'an is from God? What is the evidence
we have that it is or is not? Does the Bible give evidence of what is
truly God's Word, His Book and what is not? Yes it does. What are
these evidences?
-
First, God made plain that what is His
book is evidenced by the
prophecies of the future given in them and
their exact fulfillment. God said in His word:
Amos 3:7
"For Adonai Yehovah will do nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants
the prophets."
Isaiah 46:9-10
"For I am God, and there are no other gods, there is no one like Me, declaring
the end from the beginning and from ancient times things which have not been
done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good
pleasure’."
Isaiah 48:3, 5
"I declared the former things long ago and they went forth from My mouth, and I
proclaimed them. Suddenly I acted, and they came to pass. Therefore I declared
them to you long ago, before they took place I proclaimed them to you, lest you
should say, ‘My idol has done them, and my graven image and my molten image have
commanded them.’"
Isaiah 44:6-7
"Thus says Yehovah, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, Yehovah of hosts: ‘I am
the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me. And who is like Me?
Let him proclaim and declare it; yes, let him recount it to Me in order, from
the time that I established the ancient nation, and let them declare to them the
things that are coming and the events that are going to take place."
Jesus Himself said he revealed the future
so we would know he was Yehovah God in the flesh:
John 13:19 "From now on I am telling you
before it came to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I AM."
[Yehovah means: I Am]
After Jesus rose from the dead and His
disciples were slow to believe the prophecies of the Scripture which predicted
His coming, death and resurrection, He said to them in response:
"‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts
arise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch me
and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.’ And
when he had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. And while they
still could not believe it for joy and were marveling, He said to them, ‘Have
you anything here to eat?’ And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; and He
took it and ate it before them. Now He said to them, ‘These are My words which I
spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things
which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms
must be fulfilled.’" (Luke 24:38-44)
-
Second, God told us how to know who His
true prophets are. He said that through His true prophets that He would
predict the future and that it would come true 100% without error. He
said if they did not, then they were not His prophets and were not to be
feared:
Amos 3:7 "For Adonai Yehovah will
do nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets."
Deuteronomy 18:20-22
"But the prophet who shall speak a word presumptuously in My name which I have
not commanded him to speak, or which he shall speak in the name of other gods,
that prophet shall die. And you may say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the
word which Yehovah has not spoken?’ When a prophet speaks in the name of
Yehovah, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which
Yehovah has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not
be afraid of him." (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)
If a prophet claimed to speak for Yehovah,
but what he predicted about the future did not come true, then they were not his
prophets and were to be rejected.
*God Sent the Prophets
Jeremiah 7:25 "Since the day that your
fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My
servants the prophets, daily rising early and sending them."
*Jesus Said the
Prophets Were Sent Only Until John the Baptist
Jesus said plainly that John the Baptist
is the last prophet of God who would prophesy God's Word.
Matthew 11:13
"For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John."
Luke 16:16
"The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John;
since then the gospel of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is forcing
his way into it.
While God continues to reveal the future
to us through His servants, there is no new revelation of Scripture by God
through called anointed prophets as in the Old and New Testaments. The Scripture
in the Bible is complete, no new additions.
*Now God Only Speaks to
Us Through Jesus
Hebrews 1:1-3
"God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions
and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He
appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the ages. And He is the
reflected-brightness of His glory and the exact-image of His essence, and
upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of
sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high."
Jesus told a parable to illustrate this
truth, that He is the final revelation of God to Man:
"A man planted a vineyard, and put a wall
around it, and dug a vat under the wine press, and built a tower, and rented it
out, to vine-growers and went on a journey. And at the harvest time he sent a
slave to the vine-growers, in order to receive some of the produce of the
vineyard from the vine-growers. And they took him, and beat him, and sent him
away empty-handed. And again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in
the head, and treated him shamefully. And he sent another, and that one they
killed; and so with many others, beating some, and killing others. He had one
more to send, a beloved son; he sent him last of all
to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’" (Mark 12:1-6)
Neither Joseph Smith nor Brigham Young or
Muhammad ever gave any prophesies which came true 100%. They gave no evidence
that they were God’s prophets or that God sent them. There are no prophecies in
the book of Mormon or the Qur'an or any other religious book outside the Bible,
which is God’s signature to what is His word, His book and who He truly is and
who are truly His prophets. Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and Muhammad were false
prophets, God never gave evidence He sent them.
The Bible tells us that the church is
built upon the apostles and prophets. The Bible tells us that there were only
twelve Apostles:
"Now the names of the twelve apostles are
these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James
the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and
Matthew the tax-gatherer; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the
Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him." (Matthew 10:2-4, Mark
3:16-19, Luke 6:13-16, Acts1:13)
When Judas Iscariot hung himself after
betraying the Lord Jesus Christ, God chose and replaced him with the Apostle
Paul. Paul wrote:
"And last of all, as it were to one
untimely born, He appeared to me also. For I am the least of the apostles, who
am not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God."
(1 Corinthians 15:8-9)
The Apostle Peter in Acts 1:21-22 tells us
what are the basic qualifications for being an Apostle:
"It is therefore necessary that of the men
who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among
us—beginning with the baptism of John, until the day that He was taken up from
us—one of these should become a witness with us of His resurrection."
The Bible makes plain there were only
twelve apostles and that there will be no others. Revelation 21:14 bears this
out when talking about the foundation of the new Jerusalem in heaven:
"And the wall of the city had twelve
foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of
the Lamb."
Joseph Smith and Muhammad did not
accompany the Apostles with Jesus from the beginning of his ministry until His
death and then witness His resurrection. Neither Joseph Smith or Muhammad
prophesied the future and their prophecies come true 100% without error.
There are no prophecies in the book of Mormon or the Qur'an that came to pass
100% true without error to prove that these books are His word. Joseph
Smith and Muhammad are not Prophets or Apostle of God. God did not place
His signature upon their books, prophecies about the future that came true 100%
without error, to show that these books came from Him.
The Bible tells us that the Church and the
Bible are built upon the Apostles and Prophets:
"Having been built upon the foundation of
the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone."
(Ephesians 2:20)
The church is built upon the prophets, the
Old Testament, the 12 apostles, the New Testament; and upon Jesus the foundation
and Corner Stone who is the focus and subject of the Bible (John 5:46-47).
Paul the Apostle wrote in the Bible:
"According to the grace of God which was
given to me, as a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is
building upon it. But let each man be careful how he builds upon it. For no man
can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
(1 Corinthians 3:10-11)
The Apostle Peter wrote:
"He is the stone which was rejected by you
[Jewish leadership], the builders, but which became
the very corner stone." (Acts 4:11)
"For this is contained in Scripture:
‘Behold I lay in Zion a choice Stone, a precious corner stone, and he who
believes in Him shall not be disappointed.’" (1 Peter 2:6)
The Apostles according to the Bible were
people who walked with Jesus and witnessed His life, death, and resurrection.
After Jesus ascended, there could be no new apostles except Paul whom Jesus
replaced Judas Iscariot with. Paul had been also a witnesses of the death burial
and later Jesus’ physical resurrection. Jesus made plain that prophets, in the
sense of new revelation of Him, ended with John the Baptist, that God’s final
revelation of God to man is Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Heb 1:1-3). The Apostles
witnessed and wrote about what they learned and witnessed about Jesus Christ.
There are no new Old Testament type prophets, no new Apostles. God’s Word the
Bible is complete, and the Old Testament and Jesus warned in the final book of
Revelation that if anyone added or took away from the Bible as it stands, that
he or she will not receive eternal life or enter heaven:
"Every word of
Elohim is
tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words
lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar." (Proverbs 30:5-6)
"I testify to everyone who hears the words
of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds
to them God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and
if anyone takes away from the words of
the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life
and from the holy city, which are written in this book." (Revelation 22:18-19)
"Elohim"
is the Hebrew term for "God". There are no new Old Testament type prophets
or apostles or new revelation of God to man. There are prophets today that God
speaks through to each generation, but they are not writing new Scripture or
giving us any new revelation about who God is, and if they teach anything
contrary to what is already written they are not of God. Whatever we teach today
about who God is or about Jesus comes from God's Word: the Judeo-Christian
Bible. On earth Jesus is God’s final revelation of Himself to man.
Therefore the Bible God’s word, proved truly His word through the 100% accurate
fulfillment of future prophecies contained therein (over 2,000 that takes up 27%
of the Bible), proves that the claims of Joseph Smith and Muhammad against the
Bible are not true and that their books did not come from God. These books
add and take away from the Bible God's Word. This
also proves that Joseph Smith and Muhammad are false prophets and that they and
their books are to be rejected and spurned. "Let God be found true, though every
man be found a liar" (Romans 3:4). Mormon, Muslim, if you want to enter
Heaven and have eternal life, then you must denounce your books as being God's
Word and declare and stand on God's completed word The Judeo-Christian
Bible: which is only the testimony of Moses, the Prophets, Psalms, and
Jesus through the written testimony of His only chosen twelve apostles who
walked with Him and witnessed his life, death and resurrection. This
includes all sixty-six books in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Note
again the testimony of the Bible concerning its words and teaching:
"Every word of Elohim is tested;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words lest He
reprove you, and you be proved a liar." (Proverbs 30:5-6)
"I testify to everyone who hears the words
of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds
to them God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and
if anyone takes away from the words of
the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life
and from the holy city, which are written in this book." (Revelation 22:18-19)
The Mormons focus on the original King
James Bible which in the New Testament was translated from inferior manuscripts.
While the King James Bible is a good Bible to use, it is not one of the better
translations. The King James Bible was translated from a prepared Greek
manuscript of the New Testament by a Dutch scholar and humanist named Erasmus of
Rotterdam (1469-1536). The Printing of this Greek manuscript began on October 2,
1515 and was completed on March 1, 1516.1/99-100 The entire edition
was finished, a large folio volume of about 1,000 pages. Because of the speed in
which it was produced, this Greek New Testament contains hundreds of
typographical errors. Concerning this volume, the textual critic Scrivener once
declared, "[It] is in that respect the most faulty book I know." This was due to
the fact that Erasmus could not find a manuscript which contained the entire
Greek Testament like the Vaticanus which was held at the Vatican and was
not available to non-Catholic clergy. As a result he used partial Greek
manuscripts and some Latin manuscripts of the New Testament, which were a
translation of the Greek, at his disposal. For most of the text he relied on two
rather inferior manuscripts from a monastic library at Basle, one of the Gospels
and one of the Acts and Epistles, both dating from about the twelfth century.
Erasmus compared them with two or three others of the same books and entered
occasional corrections for the printer in the margins or between the lines of
the Greek script. For the Book of Revelation he had but one manuscript, dating
from the twelfth century, which he had borrowed from his friend Reuchlin.
Unfortunately, this manuscript lacked the final leaf, which had contained the
last six verses of the book. For these verses, as well as a few other passages
throughout the book where the Greek text of the Apocalypse and the adjoining
Greek commentary with which the manuscript was supplied are so mixed up as to be
almost indistinguishable. Because of these missing pages Erasmus depended upon
the Latin Vulgate, translating this text into Greek. From Greek to Latin and
then back to Greek. As a result of this there are passages in Erasmus
Greek New Testament which cannot be found in any of the more than 5,488 existing
Greek manuscripts known to man dating back to the second century. However,
despite these known facts, even today Many Christian circles, including the
Mormon Church, perpetuate the English translation of this Greek New Testament
called the Textus Receptus ("Received Text") known as the
King James Bible of 1611 and reject English translations based on better
more accurate manuscripts of the New Testament.
While we have manuscripts of the New
Testament dating back to A.D. 125 which is 35 years from the completed writing
of the New Testament, there are only two existing complete manuscripts of the
New Testament that are most accurate to the original writing and completion of
the New Testament; they are called the
Codex Sinaticus dated to the sixth century A.D, and B
Codex Vaticanus dated to the middle fourth century A.D. Besides these
there are over 24,000 manuscript copies of portions of the New Testament in
existence today: 5,488 (92') known Greek manuscripts, 10,000 Latin Vulgate and
8,300 other early versions and translations in Syriac, Egyptian, Arabic,
Ethiopian, Armenian, Persian, Gothic, and Slavonic, just to name a few.1/262
The New Testament was completed between A.D. 85-90 and the earliest surviving
copy we have today is A.D. 125. That means the earliest known surviving copy is
only 35 years from the original completion of the writing of the New Testament.2/145
On top of this, if all of these manuscripts were destroyed, the entire New
Testament could be completely reconstructed through the writings of the early
Church Father’s except for 11 verses.
If what secular and religious groups
claimed was true: that the Bible is corrupted, then comparison of these
manuscripts with our Greek Testament today would bear this out. Textual Critics
have studied all of these 24,000 manuscripts for centuries, extensively for the
past 200 years, and with computer technology in the last century. What do their
comparison and studies of these manuscripts show? They show that our New
Testament is 98.33% pure to the original autographs of the New Testament. The
1.67% inaccuracies that do exist consists of a slip of the pen or spelling
error, but in no way alter the communication or meaning of the New Testament
text.
How about the Old Testament? The discovery
of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1948, dated to 250 B.C., when compared to our only
existing Masoretic Hebrew text dated to A.D. 980 proved to be more than 95%
accurate to their original autographs, and then these errors only consisted of
spelling errors or the slip of the pen. However, not one of these errors
in any way or capacity altered the communication or meaning of the text. This
means that the English translations of the Bible we have today are based on
completely reliable manuscripts that are accurate to the original autographs
they are based on.
In light of these facts, secular
and religious groups which claim that the Bible has been corrupted and is not
accurately translated is a lie. Despite the textual errors in the Textus
Receptus (King James Bible), textual studies in the past century have also
shown that these errors in no way change or alter a teaching or communication of
the original text. Thus, there are no inaccuracies in the translation of the
English Bible as we know it today in any version except the Jehovah Witness's
translation called New World Translation. Where the Bible does not agree
with their doctrine, they change the Word of God in their translation so that it
does. But any Christian translation of the Bible is an accurate
translation to the Masoretic and Greek text. Being that this is true, this
proves that the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Great Price and
the Doctrines and Covenants of the Mormon Church and the Muslims
Qur'an are false and not from God since they completely contradict the
communication and teaching of the Judeo-Christian Bible on the
Nature of
God and Jesus Christ, Salvation, and
hundreds of other subjects. This also proves
that Joseph Smith and Muhammad were false prophets of God, liars, deceivers, and
anything but a men of God, because they spoke against God's true word: The
Judeo-Christian Bible!
Another remarkable discovery of our
century is the
Hebrew Codes found in the Masoretic text of the
Old Testament which shows just how much God controlled their copying from one
scroll to another over 4,500 years of time. Jesus said in Matthew 5:17-19,
"Do not think that I came to
abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. For
truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or one point
shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one
of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called least
in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called
great in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:17-19)
