(Taken From Chapter 13 of the
Book:
The Nature of Spiritual Warfare)
In order to deliver someone from demon possession and keep
them free, you must do the following seven steps:
-
First,
Fast and pray while waiting before the Lord for His revelation and
instruction.
-
Second, eat protein and build up your
strength.
-
Third, make sure the person has truly come to
saving faith in Jesus.
-
Fourth, identify and write down all doorways
to demon possession or oppression.
-
Fifth, have them confess and repent of these
doorways.
-
Sixth, bind and command the related unclean
spirits to leave in the name and the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
-
Seventh, explain to them what they must do to
stay clean and delivered.
Those who have followed these steps have had 100% results in
deliverance without exception.
FIRST,
FAST & PRAY
Before prayer for deliverance is carried out, it is good to first fast and
wait before the Lord while reading His word, seeking His Holy Spirit wisdom and
grace, strength and power for each individual situation you involve yourself in
for demonic deliverance until the Lord has made plain His will for you in
whether deliverance is what is needed or not and how He wants you to proceed.
SECOND,
EAT PROTEIN
AND BUILD UP YOUR STRENGTH
Once you have received the Lord’s answers and assurance of
victory, before you go into deliverance, take a couple of days to eat extra
protein and build up your strength. You are now ready to assist the Lord in
delivering your brother or sister from demonic possession.
THIRD,
MAKE SURE THEY HAVE
RECEIVED JESUS AS SAVIOR & LORD
In order for a person to be delivered from possession of an
unclean spirit, first the person needs to in Jesus’ name denounce
Satan, surrender to and confess Jesus as the only Lord and then receive Jesus
into their heart as Savior from their sins and as Lord of their life. Have them
pray like this:
In the name and the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
Satan I renounce and confess Jesus Christ of Nazareth as the only Lord and God.
Jesus, I confess to You that I am a sinner and repent of
my known sins. I ask You now to come into my heart as Savior from my sins and as
Lord of my life. Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving my sins through Your
Son’s death and shed blood on the cross and that I now have eternal life. Now
take control of my life, and through Your Holy Spirit lead me into your will and
plan for my life; in Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth’s name, amen.
If the person is unable to do this because they are being
hindered by the unclean spirits, then in the name and the blood of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth bind the unclean spirits and command them to release the person’s
will and to stop hindering the person from receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and
Lord. Then if the person is willing, have them do what I just said above. This
is the first step to deliverance.
Once the person has confessed and received Jesus as Savior
and Lord, They now have the power of the Holy Spirit in them to deliver
themselves from demon possession (Acts 10:43-44, Eph 1:13-14).
FOURTH,
IDENTIFY ALL KNOWN DOORWAYS
TO DEMON POSSESSION OR OPPRESSION
The next step to deliverance is to identify the
doorways which led to demon infestation. There are primarily 3 doorways
which lead to demon infestation:
-
Inheritance
-
Sexual sins
-
Any involvement in the occult
What is a doorway? The Bible states that we are the temple of
the Holy Spirit. The term doorway refers to any sin which defiles
our temple. Through that doorway of sin demons can enter and cause problems in
our lives. The person needs to determine what sins they committed in which of
these areas. The first category is not their sins, but the sins of their
ancestors. God says in His word:
Exodus 34:6-7 "Then Yehovah
passed by in front of him [Moses] and proclaimed, Yehovah, Yehovah God,
compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and
truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity,
transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished,
visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the
third and fourth generations." (See also Num 14:18, Deut 5:9)
If the person has received demons through inheritance because
of there parents involvement in the occult or the other areas above and they are
aware of it, then what they need to do is confess and repent of the sins of
their ancestors, thank Jesus for His forgiveness according to 1 John 1:9 and
then ask Jesus to cleanse them of the sin of their fathers.
If they have become infested through sexual sin, meaning
intercourse outside the bounds of marriage or through any other kind of sexual
deviation outside of marriage, they need to write down every contact they had
and confess it to God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 "Or do
you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not
be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate,
nor homosexuals, Nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
Ephesians 5:5-6 "For this
you know with certainty, that no fornicator or impure person or covetous man,
who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no
one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God
comes upon the sons of disobedience."
Colossians 3:5-6 "Therefore
put to death your members that are on earth to fornication, uncleanness,
passion, evil lust, and covetousness which is idolatry. For it is on account of
these things that the wrath of God will come."
They need to do the same with any involvement with the
occult: write down on a piece of paper each individual involvement such as Ouija
Boards, séances, seeking out Psychics or Fortune Tellers, practicing Witchcraft,
etcetera. The sole purpose of the occult is to seek out and communicate with
demons. Therefore, any activity which led them to seek communication with demons
needs to be confessed. These are the sins which led to possession.
FIFTH,
CONFESS AND REPENT
OF ALL KNOWN DOORWAYS
They next need to confess and repent of each of these
doorways and any other sins they are aware of in their lives. They must be
brutal with themselves, they need to confess and repent of each of these sins
individually to Jesus and then thank Him for His forgiveness according to 1 John
1:9 and then ask Jesus to cleanse them of that sin. They need also to in the
name and the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth denounce Satan in each of these
activities. Pray like this:
In the name and the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
Satan, I denounce you and the occult and this activity.
Until the person confesses and repents of each specific sin
of involvement in any of the three areas mentioned and any other known sins,
attempts of deliverance will be futile. The Bible teaches:
Proverbs 28:13 "He who
conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes
them will find compassion."
Proverbs 22:8 "He who sows
iniquity will reap vanity, and the rod of his fury will perish."
Isaiah 59:1-2 "Behold,
Yehovah’s hand is not so short that it cannot save; neither is His-ear so dull
that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and
your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not
hear."
The only basis for deliverance is true repentance and a
sincere desire on the person's part to want to be delivered and willingness to
carry out whatever is necessary to be delivered.
Repentance according to
John the Baptist in Matthew 3:1-12 and
Luke 3:1-14 means to
-
Confess our sins to
God,
-
Make right our wrongs confessed
-
And then to bring forth fruit, continued changed behavior
in keeping with repentance
Once the sins have been confessed
to God and repented of and God’s forgiveness is received by faith through Jesus’
death and shed blood on the cross, the demons will then have no alternative but
to obey and leave when the person in the name and the blood of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth commands them to leave.
SIXTH,
BIND AND COMMAND THE
RELATED UNCLEAN SPIRITS TO LEAVE
Once each sin is confessed and repented of and Jesus
forgiveness is received by faith through His death and shed blood on the cross,
this removes any legal ground the demons have to stay. The person can
then by faith in Jesus' name bind the unclean spirits and command them to leave
forever and they will leave instantly. You command all the demons at once to
come out related to the sin that let them in.
In the name and the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I
bind all unclean spirits related to this sin and command you to come out and be
gone forever!
Deliverance does not require knowing the demons name or
anything about the demon or demons. This is not the key to deliverance and in no
way helps the process of deliverance. The Bible is very clear about our not
communicating with unclean spirits. We are not to communicate with them except
to in the name and the blood of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to bind them and
command them to leave after the conditions the Bible lays out are met as
explained above. By unclean spirits I mean demons. Demons are fallen angels,
part of Satan’s unseen kingdom. We are not to seek them out or communicate with
them. When you talk to a demon, you in essence make the person possessed a
medium and you are disobeying the Bible's clear command to not communicate with
demons. Because this is forbidden in Scripture, doing so will hinder you from
being able to deliver the person possessed. Here are passages which clearly
teach this:
Leviticus 19:31 "Do not turn
to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am
Yehovah-your-Elohim."
Leviticus 20:6 "As for the
person who turns to mediums and to spiritists, to play the harlot after them, I
will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his
people."
Leviticus 20:27 "Now a man
or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist shall surely be put to death. They
shall be stoned with stones, their bloodguiltiness is upon them.
Deuteronomy 18:10-13 "There
shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass
through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one
who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a
spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is an
abomination to Yehovah; and because of these abominations Yehovah your-Elohim
will drive them out before you. You shall be blameless before Yehovah
your-Elohim."
Isaiah 8:19-20 "And when
they say to you, ‘Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and
mutter,’ should not a people consult their God? Should they consult the dead on
behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak
according to this word, it is because they have no dawn."
The only exception to this is when dealing with people who
have been involved in the occult who have worked with familiar spirits. In this
case these familiar spirits must be rebuked and bound in the name and the blood
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and commanded to leave by name. These people will
already know the names of these familiar spirits. If they say they do not know,
they are lying. Understand however this does not mean this requires you to have
the demon speak or for the demon to manifest itself in order for the person to
be delivered from the demon. They simply must in the name and the blood of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth bind it and then by name command it to come out and be gone
forever. The more the person controls the demons inside them, the quicker will
be their deliverance.
James 4:7 "Submit therefore
to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
Acts 5:32 "And we are
witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to
those who obey Him."
Luke 10:19 "Behold, I have
given you authority over all the power of the enemy and to tread upon serpents
and scorpions, and nothing shall injure you."
Mark 16:17 "And these signs
will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons;
they will speak with new tongues."
Once the person commands them to leave, the Holy Spirit will
let you know that they have left. They must then by faith accept that they are
gone. This means they must accept it on the basis of God’s promises in His word:
the BIBLE! as stated above, not on how they may feel. Feelings are an organ of
our fallen soul which Satan has access to and can manipulate. Therefore,
feelings must be ignored, not determined as a basis for deliverance. Our basis
for deliverance is the promises of God’s Word, the BIBLE!, alone, which brings
up another basis for deliverance: You must believe
the BIBLE is God's Word
and believe it LITERALLY! Otherwise, how can you
have faith in the promises of God in the BIBLE for deliverance? Jesus
said in John 5:46-47, "For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he
wrote of Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My
words?" Jesus said if you don't take Moses literally, you won't take his words
literally either. Jesus made it plain that if we are to have faith in any truth
in the BIBLE you must take all truths taught in the BIBLE literally. Our faith
and power against Satan in Jesus' name is based on our having faith in the
literalness of God's Word: the BIBLE! Note what the Bible says about God's
promises in His Word: the BIBLE!
Joshua 21:45 "Not one of the
good promises which Yehovah had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to
pass."
Numbers 23:19 "Elohim is not
a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said,
and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
1 Samuel 15:29 "And also
The-Glory-of-Israel will not lie or change his mind; for He is not a man that He
should change His mind."
Psalm 89:34 "My covenant I
will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips."
Psalm 119:89 "Your word is
settled in Heaven forever, Yehovah."
Psalm 138:2 "You have
magnified Your Word according to all Your name."
Isaiah 40:8 "The grass
withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our-Elohim stands forever."
Malachi 3:6 "For I, Yehovah,
do not change."
Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and
earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away."
Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ
is the same yesterday and today, and forever."
Hebrews 6:18
"It is impossible for God to lie."
Titus 1:2 "In the hope of
eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago."
Hebrews 11:6 "And without
faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that
He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."
2 Corinthians 5:7 "For we
walk by faith, not by appearance."
How we know the BIBLE is absolutely true and reliable:
John 2:22 "When therefore He
was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they
believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken."
If the person has gone through the six steps laid out above
but the person is truly not yet delivered, it means there are sins they have not
yet confessed. The person must ruthlessly confess and repent of all known sins,
otherwise commanding the unclean spirits to leave in Jesus' name will not work.
If they don’t know what they need to confess due to lack of memory, then have
them pray and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom to bring back to their memory
specific sins they have not yet confessed and repented of according to God’s
promise in James 1:5, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who
gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Whatever the Lord shows them, have them go through the steps
above and then accept by faith it is done.
SEVENTH,
WHAT THEY MUST DO
TO STAY DELIVERED & CLEAN
Once delivered, in order for the person to stay clean
they must absolutely ruthlessly disassociate
themselves from whatever led to there possession in the first place.
They must cleanse their home of all familiar objects related. By familiar
objects, I mean that which is associated with their involvement with the occult,
all porno magazines, films, pictures, occult objects, ancestral objects related
to the occult, etcetera. These also will hinder the person from being delivered
and staying delivered. Passages in the Bible which talk about removing familiar
objects are the following:
Deuteronomy 7:25-26 "The
graven images of their els [gods] you are to burn with fire; you shall not covet
the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be
snared by it, for it is an abomination to Yehovah your Elohim. And you shall not
bring an abomination into your house, and like it come under the ban; you shall
utterly detest it and you shall utterly abhor it, for it is something banned."
Exodus 32:19-20 "And it came
about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the
dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and
shattered them at the foot of the mountain. And he took the calf which they had
made and burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the
surface of the water, and made the sons of Israel drink it."
1 Corinthians 10:19-20 "What
do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is
anything? No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they
sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in
demons."
Acts 19:17-19 "And this
became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived in Ephesus; and fear fell
upon them all and the name of the Lord-Jesus was being magnified. Many also of
those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices.
And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began
burning them in the sight of all, and they counted up the price of them and
found it fifty thousand pieces of silver."
In order for the person to to stay clean, if you helped them
to get there, you will need to stay with them in follow up for at least six
months until they are strong and stable enough to stay clean themselves.
Ideally, you should have them live with you. This is because it takes time for
this person to get to the place of being strong enough in themselves to fight
off Satanic forces which will try to come back and re-establish their home
there.
Matthew 12:43-45 "Now when
the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places,
seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it said, ‘I will return to my house
from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in
order. Then it goes, and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked
than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man
becomes worse than the first."
If you want to be in the deliverance ministry, you will then
need to be committed to stick with this person for as long as it takes to help
them become stable and be able to stand on their own two feet and stay clean of
demons. You can't do this unless you are willing to take them into your own home
where you can be with them day and night for as long as it takes.
John 10:27-28
"My sheep hear My voice [Teach them
how to hear Jesus’ voice], and I know them, and they follow Me; and I
give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch
them out of My hand."
Matthew 28:18-20 "All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. GO THEREFORE
and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded
you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
John 21:15-17
"Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you
love
[agape, focus of effection
love] Me more than these?’ He said to Him, ‘Yes, Adonai; You know that I
love-You-as-a-friend [phileo,
loving someone as a Friend or brother].’ He said to him, ‘Tend My lambs.’
He said to him again a second time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you
love
[agape] Me?’ He said
to Him, ‘Yes, Adonai; You know that I
love-You-as-a-friend [phileo].’
He said to him, ‘Shepherd My sheep.’ He said to him the third time, ‘Simon, son
of John, do you love-You-as-a-friend
[phileo]?’ Peter was
grieved because He said to him the third time, ‘Do you love-Me-as-a-friend
[phileo]?’ And he said
to Him, ‘Adonai, You know all things; You know that I
love-You-as-a-friend
[phileo].’ Jesus said
to him, ‘Tend My sheep.’"
Paul stated in Acts 20:31
"Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of three
years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears."
To stay clean they will have to regain control over
their thought life. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians
10:5 "We are subverting computations and every lofty thing raised up
against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the
obedience of Christ." Demon infestation is the
result of a passive mind, a person giving over their thought life
to Satan. The spiritual battle is in the mind. It is in the mind a person
decides what he will or will not focus on. What he focuses or does not focus on
is what will determine who he or she is and how much control Satan will have
over them. Therefore gaining control over their thought life is the first step
to staying delivered.
How do they do this? First, by studying and meditating upon
God’s word. Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8-9,
"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good
repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your
mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard
and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you."
What is true, pure and excellent? Joshua wrote in
Joshua 1:8,
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but
you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do
according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way
prosperous, and then you will have success. "
David wrote in Psalm 119:11
"I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Other
Bible passages teach us about God’s word:
Psalm 12:6 "The words of
Yehovah are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven
times."
Proverbs 16:20 "He who gives
attention to the word shall find good, and blessed is he who trusts in Yehovah."
Proverbs 22:17-21 "Incline
your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge;
For it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, that they may be ready on
your lips. So that your trust may be in Yehovah, I have taught you today, even
you. Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, To
make you know the certainty of the words of truth that you may correctly answer
to him who sent you?"
Psalm 19:7-11 "The law of
Yehovah is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of Yehovah is sure, making
wise the simple. The precepts of Yehovah are right, rejoicing the heart; the
commandment of Yehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of Yehovah is
clean, enduring forever; the judgments of Yehovah are true; they are righteous
altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter
also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your
servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward."
John 17:17 "Sanctify them in
the truth, Your word is truth."
Ephesians 6:17 "And take the
helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"
Hebrews 4:12 "For the word
of God is spiritually-alive and energetically-affective and sharper than any
two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both
joints and marrow, and able to judge the conscious-reasonings and intentions of
the heart."
The
first step to their gaining control over a passive
mind is to study, memorize and meditate on God’s word.
Chapter
2-4 of the book
The
Nature of Spiritual Warfare also talk about how to gain control over a passive mind and the
flesh and how to keep the flesh from sinning. See also these articles on this
website which also talk about how to overcome a passive mind:
Second,
they need to be in the fellowship of believers. A Christian
cannot live the Christian life in his own strength. He or she needs the support
of other believers. Jesus commands in His word in
Hebrews 10:24-25,
"And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and
good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some,
but encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day drawing near."
Hebrews 12:12-13 states
"Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble,
and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be
put out of joint, but rather be healed."
Third,
you need to instruct them about the importance of spending a
daily quiet time
with Jesus in His word to submit themselves to Him and His will
and plan for their lives, and to draw upon His Holy Spirit grace, strength and
power to carry out His will. James wrote in James 4:7
"Submit therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Jesus
said in Matthew 26:41 "Keep watching and
praying, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the
flesh is weak." 1 Chronicles 16:11 &
Psalm 105:4 state "Seek Yehovah and His
strength; seek His face continually." Paul wrote in
Ephesians 6:10 "Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength
of His might." Again a Christian cannot live the Christian life alone in His own
strength. He needs the strength and support of other Christians, and the
strength and power of the Holy Spirit to live the Christian life.
Proverbs 3:6 states "In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Jesus promises us that
when we submit ourselves to Him and acknowledge Him in all our ways, in our day,
that He will give us the power of the Holy Spirit to keep our ways straight in
Him.
Fourth,
you will need to teach them the importance of seeking God's will in their use of
time and then for them to obey the Lord in their use of time. In
Chapter 4
we shared that the flesh never did obey God's laws and it never will (Rom 8:6-8,
Rom 7:14). If this is true, how then does one keep their flesh from sinning? How
does a person who has been delivered out of the occult and cleansed of demons
stay out of the occult and cleansed of demons? Paul gives us the answer in
Galatians 5:16. Paul wrote "But I say, walk
by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh." How does one
know when they are walking in the Spirit and when they are not? We are walking
in the Holy Spirit when we are using our time according to God's will (Rom
13:14, Eph 5:15-17). When we are occupied in our use of time from the time we
get up until we go to bed with Jesus’ will, there is no opportunity for the
flesh to carry out its desires and lusts. Paul tells us in Romans 7:14 that the
flesh is in bondage to sin. What this means is that when the flesh is idle, when
given opportunity through being idle, the flesh will gravitate to its lusts and
it will sin. This is why in Romans 13:14 Paul doesn't say get rid of the lusts
of your flesh because on this side of heaven that is impossible. Instead, what
Paul says to do is to not give the flesh an opportunity to carry out its lusts.
How do we do that? by keeping the flesh so occupied it doesn't have the
opportunity to focus on or pursue its lusts. Therefore, the way you teach the
person how to have victory over their sinful lusts and desires is by instructing
them to daily seek God's will in their use of time and then encouraging them of
the importance of their using their time as God has instructed them to. This is
the only way they will be able to keep from slipping back into the sins of their
flesh which is by putting "on the Lord Jesus Christ. . ." and making "no
provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts." You do this by instructing them
to fill their time from the time they get up until they go to bed with God's
will.
