Thus declares Yehovah [Jesus is Yehovah] who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him, Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. And it will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. The chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and nation of Judah after the split. Called !lev; in Genesis 14:18 and Psalm 76:3. In Aramaic !lev]WryÒ, !l,v]WryÒ, laeyriyÒ meaning established of God. Jerusalem was also the seat of central worship in the temple. Before Jerusalem it was a city of Canannite inhabited by Jebusites called Adonisedek meaning Lord of righteousness. It ws later caputred by Judah and first named Jerusalem in connexion with David. David took possession of it as king. It remained the capital until taken by Nebuchadrezzar in 588 B.C.
