Love

__________

* The Bible’s Definition of Love

Proverbs 27:5-6 “Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” (Prov 27:5-6)

1 John 5:2 “By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do His commandments.”

John 14:21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me; and he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him.” (John 14:21)

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

*Love Your Neighbor As Yourself — How

Luke 9:51-55; 10:29-37; 17:11-19

*Love of God

Deut 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel! Yehovah our-Elohim, Yehovah is one! And you shall love Yehovah your-Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

Matthew 22:37-38 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

Mark 12:30 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all Your strength.”

Luke 10:27 “You shall love the Lord Your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”

*Love Better Than Hate

Prov 15:17 “Better is a dish of vegetables where love is, than a fattened ox and hatred with it.”

Prov 19:11 A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

1 John 3:15 “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal spiritual-life abiding in him.”

1 John 4:20 “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.”

*Love Your Enemies

Prov 25:21 “If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For you will heap burning coals on his head, and Yehovah will reward you.”

Matthew 5:43-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax-gatherers do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Luke 6:27-38 “But I say to You who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your cloak [outer garment], do not withhold your tunic [worn next to the body] from him either. Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way. And if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, in order to receive back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most-High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. And do not judge and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned. Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

Romans 12:14 “Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not.”

Romans 12:17-21 “Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord. But if your enemy is hungry, feed Him, and if He is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon His head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with Good.”

*God’s Love for Us

Jeremiah 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.”

Romans 5:8-9 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.”

Ephesians 2:4-7 “But God, being rich in mercy because of His great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus, in order that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his soul for his friends.”

1 John 3:16 “We know love by this, that He laid down His soul for us; and we ought to lay down our souls for the brethren.”

Titus 3:4-7 “But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:4-7)

1 Peter 4:8 “Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.”
