Back to "R", Topical Scriptures Topical Scriptures Repentance __________ Repentance is confessing our sins to God; making right our wrongs confessed; and then bringing forth fruit, continued changed behavior, in keeping with repentance. (Matt 3:1-12, Luke 3:1-14. Prov 16:6 “Iniquity is atoned for by loving kindness and truth, and by the fear of Yehovah one keeps away from evil.” Psalm 7:12-16 "If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword; he has bent His bow and made it ready. He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons; he makes His arrows fiery shafts. Behold, he travails with wickedness, and he conceives mischief, and brings forth falsehood. He has dug a pit and hollowed it out, and has fallen into the hole which he made. His mischief will return upon his own head, and his violence will descend upon his own pate."Joel 2:12-13 “‘Yet even now,’ declares Yehovah, ‘Return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping, and mourning; and rend your heart and not your garments.’ Now return to Yehovah your-Elohim, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness, and relenting of evil. Who knows whether He will not turn and relent” Isaiah 55:6-7 “Seek Yehovah while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to Yehovah, and He will have compassion on him; and to our-Elohim, for He will abundantly pardon.” Ezekiel 33:11 “‘As I live!’ declares Adonia-Yehovah, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’” 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” Matthew 3:1-12, Luke 3:1-14 Repentance is confessing our sins to God; making right our wrongs confessed; and then bringing forth fruit, continued changed behavior, in keeping with repentance. Luke 24:46-47 “And He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the dead the third day; and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.’” Acts 26:20 but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance.
Ezekiel 18:4-28 *Repentance Necessary for Salvation If a Person Does Not Repent of His or Her Sins, He Will Not Turn to Jesus’ For Salvation The Apostle John Said that if a Person Does not Obey Jesus, He does not Know Him __________ 1 John 2:3-4 “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1 John 2:3-4) Hebrews 10:26-27 “For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.” (Hebrews 10:26-27) Matthew 7:20-23 “So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’” (Matt 7:20-23) Revelation 21:8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and fornicating persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
*If
a Person Does Not Repent of His or Her Sins, John 3:19-21 “And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” (John 3:19-21) *The Apostle John Said that if a Person Does not Obey Jesus, He does not Know Him 1 John 2-3-4 “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” *Paul and the Writer of Hebrews Tell Us Plainly that if a Person Does not Repent of His Sins, He or She Will Not Be Saved 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, Nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21 “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, lewdness, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Ephesians 5:5-6 “For this you know with certainty, that no fornicator or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” Colossians 3:5-6 “Therefore put to death your members that are on earth to fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil lust, and covetousness which is idolatry. For it is on account of these things that the wrath of God will come.” Hebrews 10:26-27 “For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.” *Repentance That Leads to Life The repentance that leads to life is believing on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation: Acts 11:17-18 "If God therefore gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Adonai-Jesus-Christ , who was I that I could stand in God's way?" And when they heard this, they quieted down, and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life." (Acts 10:43-44, 15:8-11, 2 Cor 1:22, Eph 1:13-14) Prov 16:6 “Iniquity is atoned for by loving kindness and truth, and by the fear of Yehovah one keeps away from evil.” Matthew 7:20-23 “So then, you will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’” (Matt 7:20-23) Mark 8:38 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38) John 3:19-21 “And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” Hebrews 10:26-27 “For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.” 1 John 2-3-4 “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:10 “The one who loves his brother abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.” 1 John 3:15 “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal spiritual-life abiding in him.” 1 John 5:1-2 “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do His commandments.” 1 John 5:18 “We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him.” !j'n: Kal not used; as in the Arabic to sigh, cogn. !h'n:; hence Niphal !j'ni — 1) to mourn, grieve over, with la;, l], l[', Judges 21:6, 15; Ezek 32:31. 2) to grieve, feel compassion for, pity, with l[', la,, l], @mi. 3) to feel regret, to repent with l[', la,, so as to produce either a change of conduct or of purpose, which latter case is inapplicable to God, compare 1 Sam 15:29, Psalm 110:4.
