Proverbs 23:4-5 “Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward the heavens.” Luke 16:13-15 “‘No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. you cannot serve God and mammon.’ Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things, and they were scoffing at Him. And He said to them, ‘You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is abominable in the sight of God.’” Prov 27:23-24 “Know well the condition of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds; For riches are not forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations.” Jeremiah 17:11 “As a partridge that hatches eggs which it has not laid, so is he who makes a fortune, but unjustly; in the midst of his days it will forsake him, and in the end he will be a fool.” Luke 12:13-15 “And someone in the crowd said to Him, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.’ But He said to him, ‘Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbiter over you?’ And He said to them, ‘Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.’” *With Food and Clothing We Shall Be Content 1 Timothy 6:7-11 “For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love-of-money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang. But flee from these things, you man of God and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.” 1 Timothy 6:17-18 “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” Prov 10:15 The rich man’s wealth is his fortress, the ruin of the poor is their poverty. Prov 14:20 The poor is hated even by his neighbor, but those who love the rich are many. Prov 18:11 A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his own imagination. Prov 18:23 The poor man utters supplications, but the rich man answers roughly. Prov 22:2 The rich and the poor have a common bond, Yehovah is the maker of them all. Prov 22:7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower becomes the lender’s slave. Prov 28:11 “The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the poor who has understanding sees through him.” Prov 28:20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to-be-rich will not go unpunished. Matt 19:23-24 “And Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’” (Matt 19:23-24, Mark 10:25, Luke 18:24-25) Mark 12:41-44 “And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the multitude were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent [Gr. quadran]. And calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, ‘Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.’” (Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4) Luke 12:13-21 (Can’t take it with you) Luke 16:19-31 (Rich Man & Lazarus) 1 Tim 6:7-11 “For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang. But flee from these things, you man of God and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. 1 Tim 6:17-19 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy, Instruct them to do good, to-be-rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share. storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.” James 1:9-11 “But let the brother of humble circumstances glory in his high position; and let the rich-man glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with a scorching wind, and withers the grass; and its flower falls off; and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich-man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.” James 2:4-7 “Have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor-man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?” Rev 3:15-19 “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor boiling-hot; I would that you were cold or boiling-hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither boiling-hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich, and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; be zealous therefore, and repent.” rv'[; Qal to be or become rich, wealthy. Hiphil 1) to make rich. 2) to gain riches.
